Nutrition psychology in Barcelona and online

When change doesn’t depend on food alone

Sometimes what you need is not another nutrition plan, but that shift that lets you move forward. Sessions with a clinical psychologist who specialises in eating behaviour can break down barriers, improve your relationship with food and help you establish habits with less frustration and fewer setbacks.

Start with these guides

The most common questions, explained by our dietitians. In the consultation we apply them to your case.

If you are looking for nutrition psychology, at Alimmenta a health psychologist and the team’s dietitian-nutritionists work together to help you with your relationship with food. We work on emotional hunger, eating because of anxiety, binge eating, guilt after eating or diets you start and stop. At your pace, without prohibitions or judgement, in Barcelona and online.

What we do

We listen to your history with food, diets and your body, without judging you.
We help you distinguish physical hunger from emotional hunger and recognise when you are full.
We give your meals structure, with schedules and filling dishes, without lists of foods you cannot eat.
We work on guilt and the ‘all or nothing’ thinking that turns one biscuit into the whole packet.
We support you in the moments you find hardest, such as stress, eating out in the evening or weekends.
Psychology and nutrition share your case in clinical meetings so you do not receive different messages.

What we don't do

We don’t put you on a diet or ask you to count calories.
If you want to lose weight, we don’t recommend weighing yourself more than once a week. Measuring your hip and waist circumference, or using a belt you normally wear as a reference, is more useful.
We don’t prescribe or change medication. If you take any medication, your doctor or psychiatrist manages it.
We don’t promise that you will lose weight or stop binge eating within a specific timeframe.
This consultation does not replace treatment for an eating disorder. If we see signs of an eating disorder, we speak to you with care and address it in our specialised consultation, with psychology and nutrition working together, from adolescence to adulthood. We are not an emergency service. If you are thinking of harming yourself, call 024 or 112 today.

Who this consultation is for

  • You eat when you feel anxious, sad or bored, and then feel guilty.

  • You have been on many diets: you lose weight, regain it, and each time it is harder to trust yourself around food.

  • You have episodes when you eat a lot in a short time and feel you lose control, even if it does not happen every day.

  • You think about food for much of the day, count, compensate or avoid eating out because you are afraid of “breaking” something.

  • You want to lose weight or change habits, but you already know that another plan is not the answer.

  • Your doctor or psychologist has recommended also working on your relationship with food through nutrition.

How we work

  • First appointment

We talk about your history with food, what a normal day is like and the moments when you eat without hunger. The scales do not take centre stage. We agree with you where to start.

  • With whom and how often

Depending on what you need, you work with the psychologist, the dietitian-nutritionist or both at once, in coordination. We agree the frequency of sessions with you from the start.

  • Tools, step by step

In each session we add a tool, such as recognising hunger and fullness, giving meals structure, managing difficult moments or letting go of guilt. These are small changes designed so you can sustain them.

  • Follow-up and referral

We review how things are going and adjust. If what you are experiencing needs treatment for an eating disorder or an assessment by your doctor, we tell you clearly and support you in taking that step.

Who you’ll see

The same person sees you from your first visit to discharge.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between nutrition psychology and treating an eating disorder?

Nutrition psychology works on your relationship with food when it takes away from your wellbeing: emotional hunger, occasional binge eating, guilt or diets you repeat again and again. An eating disorder needs team treatment with psychology, medicine and nutrition. If your situation is the latter, we will tell you and guide you.

Will I lose weight?

That is not the goal of this consultation. When your relationship with food settles, weight sometimes changes, but we cannot promise it.

Do I need to see both psychology and nutrition?

Not always. Some people start only with psychology, others only with nutrition and others with both at the same time. We assess this with you at the first appointment.

Nutrition visits do not replace your doctor’s care. If you are under treatment, we work alongside them.
