Hi, I’m Maria

I’m María José Moreno, a clinical psychologist specialising in eating disorders.
I graduated in psychology from the University of Granada, the city where I was born and lived for many years. I now live and work in Barcelona, both in person and online. Knowing that I wanted to pursue clinical work, I moved to Madrid to complete a master’s degree in this field.

Looking after your mental health is essential to your wellbeing

My interest in eating disorders began during my placement in the Eating Disorders Unit at Hospital del Niño Jesús. I have worked with people affected by these disorders ever since, for 30 years. I also support people living with obesity to address challenges related to food, body image and self-esteem, among other things, using cognitive behavioural therapy, which has the strongest scientific support for these disorders.
Throughout my clinical career, I have also worked with people experiencing other mental health concerns, such as anxiety disorders, depression, obsessive disorders and phobias.

I have also taught for 14 years on the Master’s in Clinical and Health Psychology at iSEP, where I teach several modules.

I enjoy life, especially the little things: looking at the sea, watching a sunset or children playing, and having coffee on a terrace…

I try to find balance in my life so that, even though I work quite a lot, I always have some time for myself. I believe this is essential to feeling well, and it is something I try to pass on to the people I work with.

My greatest passion is reading. I always carry a book in my bag, and I love looking at the large collection I have at home.

My other great passion is travelling: discovering countries very different from ours, and experiencing other cultures, landscapes and people.
