Vegetarian, vegan and flexitarian dietitian in Barcelona and online

A balanced vegetarian, vegan or flexitarian diet that fits your lifestyle

For the sake of sustainability, health, animal welfare, or all of them together, more and more people are choosing vegetarian, vegan or flexitarian diets. Today there are plenty of options to help you follow this way of eating in a balanced, varied way, and enjoy it. At Alimmenta we have spent years helping our patients adapt it in a personalised and safe way, reviewing blood test results and supplementing when necessary, in coordination with your doctor if you prefer.

Start with these guides

The most common questions, explained by our dietitians. In the consultation we apply them to your case.

We support you with vegetarian, vegan or flexitarian eating. In consultations, we review your usual meals and your blood tests if you have them. We shape your plan around the foods you already eat and the changes you want to make, in Barcelona or online.

What we do

We review how you eat and your blood tests if you have them. We start with your usual meals and the changes you want to make.
If you eat vegetarian or vegan food, we review your plan and any supplements you take.
If you want to eat less meat, we help you plan flexitarian meals that fit your routine.
For plant-based eating during pregnancy and breastfeeding, see the vegetarian dietitian during pregnancy page.

What we don't do

We will not try to persuade you to stop being vegetarian, or to become one.
We do not consider a vegan diet adequate without B12 supplementation.
We do not request or interpret blood tests: your doctor requests them and we work with the result.
We do not recommend supplements as a substitute for a well-planned diet.
We do not use veganism as an excuse for hidden restriction: if your relationship with food is the problem, we say so and refer you on.
We do not promise that a plant-based diet cures or prevents disease.

Who this consultation is for

  • You eat vegetarian food and want to review how you plan your meals.

  • You eat vegan food and want to review your plan and any supplements you take.

  • You want to eat less meat and make flexitarian eating fit your usual meals.

  • You are changing how you eat or have questions about your blood tests to discuss in a consultation.

How we work

  • Tell us how you eat

Reception gathers what type of diet you follow —vegetarian, vegan or flexitarian—, for how long and what concerns you, then assigns you to a registered dietitian on the team. If you have recent blood tests, we ask for them from the outset.

  • First appointment

We go over your blood tests, your current supplements and a typical day of meals. There are almost always two or three things that are easy to fix —protein distribution, how you take iron, the B12 dose— and another that needs more work. You leave knowing what they are.

  • Your plan

You receive guidance based on your meals, alternatives by food group and a shopping list that works in an ordinary supermarket. No expensive specialist-shop products as the foundation.

  • Follow-up with blood tests

We review it with the next blood test your doctor requests. We adjust what is needed and, if something does not improve with diet and supplementation, we refer you back to them with what we have found.

Frequently asked questions

Can I come if I only want to eat less meat?

Yes. You do not have to stop eating animal products altogether. If you want to eat flexitarian food, we can review what you eat now and the changes you want to make.

What if I already eat vegetarian or vegan food?

We review your usual meals, your blood tests if you have them, and any supplements you take. Then we prepare a plan that fits your situation.

Do I need supplements?

A vegan diet requires vitamin B12 supplementation. It is also recommended for most vegetarian diets. Other supplements depend on what you eat and your blood tests; we review this in consultation.

Where can I read about vegetarian and vegan diets?

Our guide to vegetarian and vegan diets covers general information. In consultations, we focus on your food and your own questions.

What about pregnancy or breastfeeding?

For support with plant-based eating during pregnancy or breastfeeding, see the vegetarian dietitian during pregnancy page. It covers that stage separately.

Can I book an online consultation?

Yes. Your first appointment can be by video call or in person in Barcelona. We review how you eat and prepare your plan.

Nutrition visits do not replace your doctor’s care. If you are under treatment, we work alongside them.
