Sports nutrition

Nutrition for your sport and your daily life

You train for your health, for the love of it or to compete, and you notice that what you eat changes how you arrive at each session and how you recover. We help you adjust your diet to your sport, your schedule and your goals, without copying another athlete’s diet.

We start from how you train and what you eat today. If you compete, we try out in training what you will eat on race or match day. Your coach designs your training and diagnosing an injury is your doctor’s job. If you give us permission, we talk to your coach so that your food and your training pull in the same direction.

How we work with you

A plan for your sport. A way of eating for your life.

We start by getting to know how you train, how you eat and what you want to achieve. Then we put the plan into practice and adapt it with you to your training.

Your nutrition map

We review your sport, how much and when you train, your schedule and how you eat today. If you bring blood tests or medical reports, we take them into account, along with any supplements you already take.

You leave with your first guidelines and a food and training diary.

Your first tailored plan

We explain your plan and answer your questions. We adjust your food to each type of day, whether it is a training, rest or competition day, with your tastes and your schedule.

You leave knowing what to eat before, during and after training.

Fitting it into your life

We go over how the changes agree with you in training and adjust the plan. If you compete, we try out beforehand what you will eat on the day. If your training load changes or you get injured, we adapt the plan.

You learn to adjust your diet when your training changes.

Why several visits?

A sports nutrition plan is tested in training. Between visits we see how your food agrees with you, what you tolerate during exercise and how you recover. That way we adjust the plan when your training load, your calendar or your goal changes.

Before you take the first step

Are we what you are looking for?

Whether you compete or train for your health, we want you to know how we work from the start.

We do not set your training.

Your training plan is the job of your coach or strength and conditioning coach. An injury is assessed by your doctor and your physiotherapist guides your recovery.

We adjust your food to what they set.

We start from your actual training load and, if you give us permission, coordinate with whoever trains you.

We do not sell supplements.

Training hard does not mean you need a collection of tubs, shakes or capsules.

We only recommend what has evidence behind it.

If a supplement makes sense for your case and your sport, we explain why. We do not sell the product or recommend brands, and we do not recommend sports supplements to under-18s.

We do not ask you to eat less to perform better.

Losing weight in a hurry or training without enough energy harms your health and your performance.

Eating enough for the training you do.

We make sure your energy intake covers your effort. If you want to change your body composition, we work on it without sharp drops or extreme diets.

Who will see you

Registered dietitians, alongside psychology and endocrinology

The same person always sees you, from your first appointment to discharge. Behind the scenes, cases are discussed in clinical meetings with the other registered dietitians, psychology and endocrinology. If there is something emotional or medical behind it, we refer you to our team’s psychology or endocrinology service, or to your doctor.

We will suggest the registered dietitian who best suits your sport and your goal. When needed, and with your permission, we coordinate with your coach, your physiotherapist or your doctor so that your plan supports their work.

The most common questions

Do I have to compete to see a sports dietitian?

No. We see people who train for their health, for the love of it or for a one-off challenge, as well as people who compete. What changes with the level is how precise the plan is. If you train regularly and notice that what you eat affects your energy, your recovery, your digestion or your weight, it already makes sense to come and see us.

What should I bring to my first visit?

Your training schedule and, if you compete, the events you have coming up. Also any recent blood tests and medical reports, and the medication and supplements you take. It helps to note down for a few days what you eat and drink, and what time you train.

Do you set my training too?

No. Your training is designed by your coach or your strength and conditioning coach. Diagnosing an injury is your doctor’s job and guiding your recovery is your physiotherapist’s. We adjust your food to what they set and, with your permission, we talk to them.

What if I have an injury or stomach problems when I train?

We work on both in our consultations. During an injury we adapt the plan to the load you can manage and to your recovery, and if there is a health problem, we work with your doctor. For stomach problems while running we review what you eat, how much and when, and try it out in training first.

Will you recommend supplements?

Only if there is a reason and evidence for your case and your sport, and always as an addition to your food. We do not sell supplements or recommend brands, and we do not recommend sports supplements to under-18s. If you already take any, we go over with you whether they are doing anything for you.

Can it be online and with the same professional?

Yes. You can have your first visit and follow-ups by video call, with the same registered dietitian. It is handy if you travel to competitions or train far from our clinics, and you can switch between in-person visits and video calls.

How much does the first visit cost?

The first sports nutrition visit costs €75 and lasts 45 minutes, in person or by video call. You can also check appointment packages and insurer agreements on our rates page.

When to see a doctor

Diet can cover the energy, hydration and recovery your training demands. Assessing an injury, your heart or your relationship with food is the job of your doctor or a psychologist. Seek medical attention without waiting to change your diet if you notice any of these signs:

  • You feel pain or tightness in your chest, severe dizziness, faint, or your heart races during exercise

  • During exercise in heat, you feel confused or disoriented, or stop sweating

  • You pass very dark, cola-coloured urine with severe muscle pain after unusual training

  • Your periods have stopped, you have had several stress fractures, or your performance has been falling for months with marked tiredness

  • You train fasted because you feel compelled to, are afraid of eating certain foods, or diet controls your social life
