Childhood and adolescence
Nutrition for childhood and adolescence
Childhood is when we learn flavours, routines and how to relate to food. It is normal to come to us with questions about how to start with first foods, what to do when your son or daughter eats very little or refuses almost everything, how to round off the school lunch menu or how to support a teenager who already makes their own choices. We help you organise a diet suited to their age that works in your whole family’s daily life.
We work with you and, when they are old enough, with your son or daughter too. We do not put any child on a diet, weigh them in the consultation or label them. Their growth is assessed by their paediatrician, and we coordinate with the paediatrician when needed, always with your permission.

How can we help you?
Babies and complementary feeding
To start with first foods, textures and allergens calmly.
See specialtyChildren’s nutrition
For when they eat little or refuse almost everything, and to organise meals at home and at school.
See specialtyAdolescence
To support your son or daughter when they already decide what they eat, without focusing on weight.
See specialtyHow we work with you
A plan for your family. A way of eating for your life.
We start by getting to know how your son or daughter eats and what daily life is like at home. Then we put the plan into practice as a family and adapt it with you.

First visit
45 minutes
Your nutrition map
We talk about what your son or daughter eats, what they refuse, their schedule and school lunches. We review their paediatrician’s reports, if you have any, and what worries you most, so we can work out your starting point together.
You leave with your first guidelines for meals at home.

A week later
30 minutes
Your first tailored plan
We explain your plan and answer your questions. We adapt it to their age, their tastes and your family’s schedule, with ideas that work for everyone at the table.
You know what to offer, how and when, without cooking a separate menu.

From the third visit
Every two weeks · 30 minutes
Fitting it into your life
We go over how mealtimes have gone and adjust the plan. Birthdays, holidays or a spell when they eat less well are dealt with as they come. With older children and teenagers, we aim for them to understand the changes and take part in them.
You learn to support their eating as their age and routines change.
Why several visits?
A child’s diet changes as they grow, and what you adjust at home shows over time. Between visits we see what has worked at the table and what questions have come up, and we adjust the plan. Each family goes at its own pace, without pressuring your son or daughter to eat.

Are we what you are looking for?
If you are looking for help with your children’s eating, we want you to know how we work from the start.
We do not replace their paediatrician.
Assessing growth, diagnosing and prescribing medical treatment are the paediatrician’s job.
We work with their clinical information.
We take their paediatrician’s reports into account and, with your permission, coordinate with the paediatrician when needed.
We do not sell supplements.
A child eating little for a while does not mean they need a supplement.
We only recommend what is justified.
If there is a reason to consider a supplement, we explain it and discuss it with their paediatrician. We do not sell the product.
We do not put any child on a diet.
Banning foods, weighing them or labelling them can affect their relationship with food.
We organise the whole family’s eating.
We work on what is eaten at home, how and when, without pressure at the table and with ideas for everyone.

Registered dietitians, alongside psychology and endocrinology
The same person always sees you, from your first appointment to discharge. Behind the scenes, cases are discussed in clinical meetings with the other registered dietitians, psychology and endocrinology. If there is something emotional or medical behind it, we refer you to our team’s psychology or endocrinology service, or to your doctor.
We will suggest the registered dietitian who best suits your child’s age and what concerns you. We coordinate with their paediatrician when needed, always with your permission. If we see their relationship with food becoming difficult, we will ask you to talk to their paediatrician.

The most common questions
What should I bring to my first visit?
Their paediatrician’s reports, if you have any, and any medication or supplements they take. It also helps to note down for a few days what they eat, at what time and what they refuse, and to bring the school lunch menu if they eat at school.
Will you put my son or daughter on a diet?
No. A child is still growing, and cutting out foods without medical advice can affect their growth and their relationship with food. We organise what is eaten at home, how and when, for the whole family. If their paediatrician has assessed their weight, we work on habits without weighing them in the consultation or talking about kilos in front of them. With teenagers we take great care with messages about body and weight.
Does my son or daughter need to come to the consultation?
It depends on their age and the reason for the visit. We see children from the start of complementary feeding through to adolescence. With babies and young children, the first visit is usually just with you, as you have the information, and it is calmer that way. Older children and teenagers should come and take part, because they need to understand the changes and make them their own.
Does the consultation replace the paediatrician?
No. The paediatrician diagnoses and monitors growth. We work on their diet from there and, with your permission, coordinate with the paediatrician when needed. If we notice something they should assess, such as weight loss, frequent vomiting or almost stopping eating, we will ask you to see the paediatrician before we carry on.
Will you recommend supplements for my child?
We do not sell supplements. If there is a reason to consider one, we explain it and discuss it with their paediatrician, who is the one to prescribe it.
Can it be online and with the same professional?
Yes. A video call lasts the same time and the same registered dietitian sees you throughout follow-up. Much of the work is talking with the family about routines, menus and ways of offering food, and that works just as well remotely. Measurements are taken by their paediatrician.
How much does the first visit cost?
The first children’s nutrition visit costs €65 and lasts 45 minutes, in person or online. You can also check appointment packages and insurer agreements on our rates page.

Diet can support first foods, variety and routines at home. Assessing growth, diagnosing an allergy or treating an eating disorder is the job of their paediatrician and specialists. Seek medical attention without waiting to change their diet if you notice any of these signs:
