How we work
6 questions
How do you work at Alimmenta?
We’re a nutrition clinic in Barcelona that has worked with evidence-based nutrition since it began. Everyone who sees you is a registered, qualified dietitian, and our aim is to put your health, your needs and your goals at the centre, without selling you methods with no scientific basis or unnecessary supplements.
We always start with an individual assessment: your health, your habits, your test results if you have them, your preferences, your circumstances and what you want to achieve. You’ll find the full journey in how we work.
What sets Alimmenta apart from other nutrition clinics?
We won’t sell you a magic formula, a fad diet or a miracle method. We’ve been in practice for more than 17 years and work with evidence-based nutrition, clinical experience and personalised support, without any focus on selling supplements or products.
Our aim is to help you understand your diet and give you the tools so that, one day, you won’t need to keep coming, because you’ll know how to look after yourself on your own.
Can I come even if I don't want to lose weight?
Yes. Checking whether your diet is right for you makes sense whatever the reason. We also support weight gain, digestive problems, vegetarian and vegan eating, pregnancy, menopause, children’s nutrition, sports nutrition and improving test results. You’ll find every area under specialities.
How do I book an appointment?
In three ways: through Doctoralia, our online booking system; by phone, on +34 932 18 95 32, Monday to Friday from 9am to 8pm; or by writing to us through contact if you’d rather we point you towards the right clinic or dietitian first.
What if I can't make it on the day of my appointment?
Let us know as soon as you can, by phone or by replying to your booking email. The sooner we know, the easier it is to reschedule you and free up the slot for someone else. We won’t ask you to explain why.
Do I need to bring test results?
You don’t have to, but if you have recent test results, bring them along: they help us assess your health and fine-tune your plan. If you don’t have any, you can bring them to a later visit. Your dietitian will tell you if it’s worth asking your GP for some.

The first visit
5 questions
How long does the first visit last, and what happens?
It lasts 45 minutes. We go through your history, habits, daily schedule, family situation, preferences and what you want to achieve. If you come in person, we also weigh and measure you and carry out a body composition assessment. This is the visit where we get to understand your case, not where you get your plan: that happens at the second visit, a week later.
Do I leave the first visit with a diet plan?
No. If we gave you a plan without knowing your case, it would just be a generic one. Your dietitian puts together a personalised plan using what you shared at that first visit, then explains and fine-tunes it with you at the second visit, a week later. You do leave the first visit with specific pointers for that week, though.
Will you do a body composition assessment?
Yes, at your first in-person visit: weight, measurements and body composition — fat percentage, muscle mass and body water — which give us a starting point for follow-up. A full, more detailed anthropometric assessment is a separate one-hour visit, which we’d suggest if your case needs it.
Who will see me?
A dietitian who is a qualified member of the Col·legi de Dietistes-Nutricionistes de Catalunya, with specific training in your area. The team also includes a clinical psychologist and an endocrinologist, and when a case needs that support, it’s coordinated within the same clinic. Technical direction is by Juana Mª González, registered dietitian CAT000921. You can meet the whole team on our team page.
Will I always see the same professional?
Yes: the same dietitian follows your case from start to finish, even if you combine in-person and online visits. Cases that need it are reviewed periodically with the rest of the team, but the person you deal with doesn’t change.

Follow-up
4 questions
When does follow-up start, and how often?
Your second visit is a week after the first: that’s when you get your personalised plan. From there, follow-ups last 30 minutes and, when there’s ongoing care, a visit every fortnight is typical. You can see the whole sequence on our how we work page.
How long does the whole process take?
It depends on where you’re starting from and your goal. The process can take anywhere from a couple of months to more than six. The aim isn’t to drag it out: it’s for you to end up with the tools to keep going on your own, without depending on us.
Can I ask questions between visits?
Yes. While your dietitian is looking after your case, you can email them with any questions about your plan. They’ll reply as soon as they’re available again and, if needed, tweak something ahead of your next visit.
Is the plan really personalised?
Yes. Our work is built around designing personalised plans and, above all, helping you understand and stick to them. They always take three things into account: your health, your goals and your preferences.
For many people, the real change comes when they finally feel in control of what they eat: knowing how to organise themselves, choose better, fit food around their life, and decide for themselves, without being swayed by myths or commercial messages about nutrition.

Your plan in real life
6 questions
Will my plan be very restrictive? Will I go hungry?
No. We don’t work with plans based on extreme restriction: in the clinic, we see that these end in anxiety, a sense of failure and people giving up. Your plan is tailored to you, so it’s enough to keep you full, and we adjust it as we go, depending on how you’re getting on. If you’re hungrier than usual one day, that’s useful information for your next visit, not a failure.
Will I have to weigh out my portions?
Only if you find it easier that way. Some people prefer guideline amounts in grams, while others work better with visual portions: plates, cups, spoons or specific examples. Your dietitian will work out with you which format fits your everyday life best.
What happens if I don't follow the plan one day?
It’s part of life. There are holidays, celebrations, meals out and unexpected events, and days when you won’t eat exactly as planned. We don’t expect you to follow a perfect plan every single day: part of what you’ll learn is how to handle those moments, enjoy them, and go back to your usual way of eating afterwards without guilt or feeling like you’ve failed.
In fact, those days often teach us a lot: at your next visit we’ll look at what happened, how you felt, and what might help you handle them more easily next time.
Can my family eat the same as me?
In most cases, yes: we try to make your plan fit with the food of the people you live with. If you live with family, a partner or flatmates, or need to plan meals for several people, we take that into account and give you practical tips so you don’t always have to cook something different.
Will I have to do a lot of cooking?
That’s up to you. One of the first things we look at is whether you enjoy cooking, how much time you have and how involved you want to be. Cooking at home helps, but not everyone has the same time or enthusiasm for it: if you’re not keen, we’ll give you simple, quick, realistic ideas; if you enjoy cooking, more elaborate and varied recipes. Your plan should fit your life, not complicate it.
Can I stick to the plan if I eat out a lot?
Yes. Part of what you’ll learn is how to eat well outside the home too: we give you tools for eating out, packed lunches, frequent travel, awkward shift patterns or working nights. A personalised plan shouldn’t only work in ideal conditions — it should work in your real life.

Goals and specialities
4 questions
Do you work with digestive symptoms or problems?
Yes, we have since we started. We support people with bloating, wind, heavy digestion, diarrhoea, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, intolerances and other digestive problems that need an individual plan. Read more at digestive dietitian.
Do you work with menopause or hormonal changes?
Yes. We take each life stage into account: perimenopause, menopause, pregnancy, breastfeeding and other hormonal changes can affect body composition, energy, fullness, digestion, sleep, and bone and muscle health. That’s why we adapt your diet to each stage, even if your main reason for visiting is something else. More at menopause.
Do you work with athletes?
Yes, at any level: from people training for their health to amateur athletes or those with performance goals. Sports nutrition can help with energy, recovery, body composition, digestion during exercise and planning meals around training and competitions. More at sports nutrition.
Do you work with Ozempic and other weight-loss medications?
Semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy) and other GLP-1 medications are prescribed by a doctor; if needed, your dietitian discusses your case with the team’s endocrinologist. If you’re already on one of these treatments, we support your diet to meet your needs and protect your muscle mass: read more at GLP-1 medication support.

Online consultations and clinics
4 questions
Can I have an online consultation?
Yes. We’ve offered online consultations since we started, and we work with people in various countries. The process is the same as in person and is run by the same dietitian. You can do it all online or combine it with in-person visits if you live near one of our clinics. Find out more at online consultation.
What happens with weight and measurements in an online consultation?
Measurements are tracked using your own scales and tape measure at home, guided step by step by your dietitian. Reports and documents are emailed to you during or just after each visit.
Can I combine in-person and online visits?
Yes. The method is the same in both formats and they’re run by the same professional, so you can start in person and continue online, or the other way round, without changing who you deal with. The only difference is that weight and body composition are measured at an in-person visit.
Where are your clinics?
We have seven in-person clinics: Vía Augusta, Vila Olímpica and Sant Andreu in Barcelona, and Sant Cugat, Sabadell, Terrassa and Mataró in the wider province. You’ll find the address and opening hours for each on our clinics page.

Prices, insurance and supplements
6 questions
How much does the first visit cost?
The first visit and every follow-up cost €65 for general nutrition (also children’s nutrition and GLP-1 medication support) and €75 for clinical and sports consultations: digestive, SIBO, allergies, sports, oncology and eating disorders. Psychonutrition costs €75, and the endocrinology consultation, which is online only, costs €120. The exact price is shown on each speciality page before you book.
Are there discount packs?
Yes. We recommend the pack of 5 visits: €300 for general nutrition and €350 for clinical and sports. For longer processes, there’s also a pack of 10 visits (€550 and €650). You don’t need to decide before coming in: at your first visit, we’ll tell you what frequency suits your case.
Is it better to pay per visit or buy a pack?
It depends on your goal. If you’re after one-off guidance, starting with a single visit may be enough. If you want to change habits, lose weight, improve your test results, adapt your diet to sport, or sort out digestive symptoms, ongoing follow-up will help. At your first visit, we’ll advise you on the frequency that suits you and whether a pack is worth it.
Do you work with health insurers?
Yes. If you’re with Adeslas, Sanitas, Asisa, DKV, Mapfre, AXA or another insurer we work with, you pay less: the general visit costs €55 instead of €65, and the clinical or sports visit, €65 instead of €75. You pay for the visit yourself: Alimmenta applies the discount once we’ve checked your card. See all the insurers at health insurers.
I'm a member of a gym where you provide a service. Do I get any benefit?
Yes. At the sports centres where we provide our service, you get a free introductory visit to meet us and, if you go ahead, the same prices as with a health insurer: €55 for the general visit and €65 for the clinical or sports visit. The introductory visit doesn’t include a clinical consultation, diagnosis or personalised plan.
Is there a discount if I refer someone?
Yes. If you refer someone and they come to their first visit and pay for it, you’ll both get 50 % off a visit: €32.50 for general nutrition or €37.50 for clinical and sports. It doesn’t apply to psychology and can’t be combined with other discounts.
Will I have to buy supplements?
We don’t sell supplements or base our work on shakes, bars or products. If a test result shows you might need a supplement for a while, we’ll tell you and point you in the right direction, but we won’t be the ones supplying it.
We couldn't find any question matching that word. Try another one, write to us or call us on 93 218 95 32.
Can't find your question?
If what you need isn't here, write to us through the contact form or call us on 93 218 95 32, Monday to Friday from 9am to 8pm. If we don't pick up, we're probably with a patient: leave us a message and we'll call you back.
