Nutrition 60+
Nutrition for your strength and independence from 60 onwards
Over the years, appetite, strength and what the body needs all change, whether it is your body or that of the person you care for. Sometimes it is hard to eat enough, to chew or to swallow, or meals have to fit around several medications. We help you look after your muscles and bones through what you eat, and keep you enjoying your food.
We go over your blood tests, your medical reports and the medication you take with you. Diagnosis and treatment are your doctor’s job. In our consultations we adapt your diet to your health and your cooking. You can come with a family member or both join by video call.

See specialtyHow we work with you
A plan for your strength. A way of eating for your life.
We start by getting to know how you eat, your health and the medication you take. Then we put the plan into practice and adapt it with you.

First visit
45 minutes
Your nutrition map
We review your meals, your appetite, how active you are and whether you find it hard to chew or swallow. We also look at your blood tests, your medical reports and your medication. If you come with a family member, we want to know who cooks and how meals are organised at home.
You leave with your first guidelines for your meals.

A week later
30 minutes
Your first tailored plan
We explain your plan and answer your questions. We put it together around your tastes, your schedule and the way you cook, taking into account what you need to look after in your health.
You leave knowing how to spread your protein and organise your meals through the day.

From the third visit
Every two weeks · 30 minutes
Fitting it into your life
We go over how the changes agree with you, how your appetite is and how your weight and strength are progressing. We adjust the plan when your medication, your health or your routine at home changes.
We adjust your plan to each change, without starting from scratch.
Why several visits?
Changes in your diet show over weeks, and as the years go by your health and medication often change. Between visits we see how you are eating, how your appetite is and whether your weight is holding steady, and we adjust the plan. That way you can keep up the plan at home, with your family and in your routine.

Before you take the first step
Are we what you are looking for?
Whether you come for yourself or for someone in your family, we want you to know how we work from the start.
We do not promise extra years.
No eating plan slows ageing or guarantees how long you will live.
We look after what diet can look after.
We work on muscle, bone and appetite using your clinical information, and coordinate with your doctor when there is a diagnosis.
We do not sell supplements.
Getting older does not mean you need a supplement, and some products interact with medication.
We recommend what your case needs.
If a blood test justifies it, such as a vitamin D deficiency, we explain why. We do not sell the product.
We are not after weight loss at any cost.
As you get older, losing weight without looking after your muscles can sap your strength and make frailty worse.
A plan that fits your home.
We take into account your appetite, how you chew, who cooks and what you like, so you keep enjoying your food.

Registered dietitians, alongside psychology and endocrinology
The same person always sees you, from your first appointment to discharge. Behind the scenes, cases are discussed in clinical meetings with the other registered dietitians, psychology and endocrinology. If there is something emotional or medical behind it, we refer you to our team’s psychology or endocrinology service, or to your doctor.
We will suggest the registered dietitian who best suits your case. If you are coming about a family member, whoever cooks for them or looks after them at home can come with you or join by video call. When there is a diagnosis or treatment, we coordinate with their doctor.

The most common questions
What should I bring to my first visit?
Your recent blood tests, your medical reports and a list of the medication and supplements you take. If you have weighed yourself in recent months, note down how much. If the consultation is for a family member, it helps if you tell us what they eat on a normal day and who cooks at home.
Does a nutrition consultation replace my doctor?
No. Diagnosing and treating osteoporosis, loss of muscle and strength (sarcopenia) or malnutrition are your doctor’s job. We do not assess swallowing either. If you cough or choke when eating, talk to your doctor, who can refer you to a speech and language therapist. In our consultations we adapt your diet to that diagnosis and to your medication.
How much protein do I need?
Probably more than you are getting, and better spread across breakfast, lunch and dinner rather than nearly all of it in the evening. For older people without kidney disease, the reference is at least 1 g of protein per kilo of body weight per day, usually between 1.0 and 1.2 g. It may be more if you train. The exact amount is adjusted in the consultation. With kidney disease, protein depends on the stage and we follow your nephrologist’s instructions.
Do I need to lose weight?
Not necessarily. As you get older, losing weight without looking after your muscles makes frailty worse. If there is a medical reason to lose weight, it is done slowly, with enough protein and strength training, making sure that what you lose is fat.
Will you recommend supplements?
We do not sell supplements. There is no evidence of benefit from products that claim to slow ageing, and some interact with medication. If a blood test shows a deficiency, for example of vitamin D, we explain whether a supplement is advisable and discuss it with your doctor. If you already take any, bring them to your visit.
Can it be online and with the same professional?
Yes. You can have your visits by video call and keep your follow-up with the same registered dietitian. When the visit is about a family member, you can both join from different places. If we think an in-person assessment is needed, we will tell you.
How much does the first visit cost?
The first visit costs €65 and lasts 45 minutes, in person or online. You can also check appointment packages and insurer agreements on our rates page.

When to see a doctor
Diet can look after your muscles and bones and help you eat enough, and safely.
