Start with these guides

The most common questions, explained by our dietitians. In the consultation we apply them to your case.

We help you adapt your food during perimenopause and menopause. In consultations, we discuss changes to your cycle, sleep and weight, and assess body composition and strength. We also consider bone health, cholesterol and your blood tests. Food does not treat hot flushes; decisions about hormone therapy belong with your gynaecologist.

What we do

We assess body composition and strength, not just weight, and work to preserve muscle mass.
We support bone health with adequate food and strength training, alongside what your doctor has advised.
We use food to support the values your doctor follows through blood tests: cholesterol, triglycerides, glucose and blood pressure.
We organise meals, caffeine and alcohol with your sleep in mind too.
We explain what the evidence says about soya and phytoestrogens, without selling you anything.
We coordinate with your gynaecologist or doctor when your situation calls for it.

What we don't do

We do not prescribe, stop or give opinions on your hormone therapy: that decision is yours and your gynaecologist’s.
We do not promise that food will get rid of hot flushes. The evidence is limited, and we prefer to tell you that.
We do not recommend supplements or isoflavones for hot flushes, especially if you have a history of hormone-dependent cancer: that is something to discuss with your doctor.
We do not diagnose menopause or osteoporosis. That is your doctor’s role, based on your history and tests.
We do not treat weight gain as if it were only a matter of eating less.
We do not repeat the ‘what to eat’ here: that is in the guide, and we take you to it.

Who this consultation is for

  • You are in perimenopause and your cycle, sleep or body has changed, although your habits have not.

  • During perimenopause or menopause, your weight has changed and you want to look at strength and body composition too.

  • You are in menopause and concerned about bone health, or a scan has shown osteopenia or osteoporosis.

  • During menopause, your cholesterol, glucose or blood pressure has risen and you want to adapt your food.

How we work

  • Tell us where you are in the process

Our reception team notes whether you are in perimenopause or menopause already, which symptoms weigh on you most, which treatment you are having and which recent blood tests you have, then assigns you to a dietitian-nutritionist from the team.

  • First appointment

We go through your history, your blood tests, your bone density scan if you have one, how you sleep, what has changed in your body and what you eat in a typical week. We assess body composition. Together we define two or three goals that can be measured and are not only about weight.

  • A food and strength plan

Your nutrition plan is accompanied by strength training, because from this point it is half the work. We adjust protein, calcium and everything else to what you already eat, your timetable and what you enjoy. If your doctor has prescribed calcium, vitamin D or treatment for bone health, we incorporate it without changing it.

  • Follow-up

We review how things are going, which symptoms have improved and which have not, and make adjustments with your new blood tests. If something comes up that needs your doctor —bleeding after twelve months without periods, a fracture after a minor knock— we tell you and help you organise that appointment.

Frequently asked questions

Can food get rid of hot flushes?

No, and anyone who says it can is going beyond what we know. The evidence that a particular eating pattern controls hot flushes is limited and inconsistent. What many women do notice is that structuring meals, moderating alcohol and caffeine, and sleeping better changes how they cope with the day as a whole. That is what we work on; we do not promise the other thing.

Do I gain weight because of menopause?

What clearly changes is where fat accumulates and how much muscle mass is preserved, and this happens during years when we also tend to move less. That is why in consultations we do not only look at the scales: we look at body composition and strength, and the plan includes training from day one.

What about soya, isoflavones and ‘menopause’ supplements?

We explain what the evidence says about each option, and what it does not, without selling you anything, because we do not sell supplements. And there is one case where the answer is always the same: if you have or have had hormone-dependent cancer, discuss any isoflavone supplement with your oncologist first.

I am taking hormone therapy. Can I still come?

Yes, and it changes nothing about what we do. We do not give opinions on your treatment or suggest that you stop or start it: that conversation is with your gynaecologist. What we do is work on food and movement around what they have decided.

And the ‘what to eat’? Will you give me a menu?

You leave with a personalised nutrition plan, yes, but the general information —which foods to prioritise at this stage, menu ideas— is in our menopause nutrition guide, open and free. The consultation is something else: it is your situation, your blood tests and your real week.

Can it be done online?

Yes. The same team, the same follow-up and the same price in person and by video call. Seeing you in person is useful when we want to assess body composition with bioimpedance scales; if that matters in your case, we combine both options.

Nutrition visits do not replace your doctor’s care. If you are under treatment, we work alongside them.
