Digestive dietitian in Barcelona and online

Improving your symptoms starts with understanding your digestion

Bloating, wind, reflux, constipation, diarrhoea, or diagnoses such as SIBO, irritable bowel syndrome or intolerances are becoming more and more common. A personalised way of eating can make a real before-and-after difference to your symptoms and your quality of life. We look at your case in depth to help you get your digestive wellbeing back.

Start with these guides

The most common questions, explained by our dietitians. In the consultation we apply them to your case.

A digestive nutrition appointment helps turn your doctor’s diagnosis into an eating plan you can live with: what to change, in what order and for how long. We work from your test results and medical reports. If you have irritable bowel syndrome and a low FODMAP diet is appropriate for you, we follow it in phases and set a date to reintroduce foods. In Barcelona and online.

What we do

We start with your diagnosis and test results, such as an endoscopy, breath test or blood tests.
We look for what causes discomfort, distinguishing the food itself from meal timing, portion size and cooking method.
For irritable bowel syndrome, we use the low FODMAP diet when it is appropriate. From day one, we set an end date for the 2 to 6 week elimination phase and guide you through reintroduction. We bring foods back as soon as possible so your diet and gut microbiota do not suffer from unnecessary restriction. We coordinate your eating plan with the treatment prescribed by your doctor, including antibiotics.
We also work on factors around the symptoms, such as meal patterns, chewing, stress and sleep.

What we don't do

We do not diagnose SIBO, coeliac disease, intolerances or any digestive condition. Your doctor does that using validated tests.
We do not use IgG tests, bioresonance, hair analysis or kinesiology to diagnose intolerances. Nor do we use stool microbiota analysis, serum DAO tests or sorbitol tests for diagnosis. Genetics alone cannot diagnose coeliac disease.
We do not prescribe antibiotics, antimicrobials, prokinetics or any other medication.
We do not use the low FODMAP diet as a lifelong plan. We do not remove gluten before coeliac testing, because doing so can invalidate the results. We do not promise that symptoms will disappear.

Who this consultation is for

  • You have been diagnosed with gastritis, reflux, a hiatal hernia or oesophagitis and are unsure what to eat or how to plan your evening meals.

  • You have irritable bowel syndrome and want to follow the low FODMAP diet properly, with a professional to help you reintroduce foods.

  • You have SIBO confirmed by a breath test and are receiving treatment or have just finished it.

  • You have a confirmed intolerance, such as lactose or fructose intolerance, and your food choices are becoming increasingly limited.

  • You have Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis and want to adapt what you eat during a flare and when your condition is stable.

  • You have had bloating, gas or irregular bowel habits for months and have already seen a gastroenterologist.

How we work

  • First appointment

We review your medical reports, medication and what you eat in a day, including meal times, portions and symptoms. You leave with initial recommendations and a diary to record what you eat during the week and how you feel afterwards.

  • An eating plan in phases

Seven days later, at your second appointment, you receive your written eating plan. If an elimination phase is needed, it has an end date and a reintroduction plan from the outset.

  • Reviews every two weeks

We look at your diary, what has improved and what has not, and adjust portions, meal times and cooking methods. At each appointment, we bring back foods you can now tolerate, one at a time and with care.

  • Eat a varied diet and space out appointments

When your symptoms are under control and you are eating a varied diet, we move to appointments every three months. If something does not add up, we refer you back to your gastroenterologist with a report of what we have observed.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a diagnosis before I come in?

It helps us work most effectively, but it is not always essential. If your symptoms have not yet been investigated, the first appointment can help you make sense of what is happening and identify which doctor to see. We do not diagnose your condition. If you have burning or a heavy feeling after eating, our gastritis diet guide can help in the meantime.

Do I need to cut out gluten?

Only if you have a diagnosis that calls for it. If you are being tested for coeliac disease, do not cut out gluten yet. Removing it before blood tests and a biopsy can make the results appear normal even if you have coeliac disease, leaving you without a diagnosis. Speak to your doctor before changing your gluten intake.

How long does the low FODMAP diet last?

For irritable bowel syndrome, it is a temporary tool with three phases. The elimination phase lasts 2 to 6 weeks, with an end date set from day one. Guided reintroduction comes next, followed by a personalised eating plan that usually lets you eat more foods than you might expect. Staying in the elimination phase for months limits the variety of your diet and can affect your gut microbiota. If you have SIBO, see our SIBO dietitian service.

How soon will I feel better?

It depends on the condition and its cause, so we cannot give you a date. Some symptoms improve within days when meal times and portions change; other conditions take weeks and several adjustments. From your first appointment, you will know what we are trying and how we will check whether it is helping.

How much is the first appointment?

The first appointment costs €70 and lasts 45 minutes, in person or by video call. If you decide to continue, the 5-appointment package we recommend costs €320 (the 10-appointment package costs €560). Your insurer may have an agreement with us, in which case the price is lower; check our insurance section to see if this applies to you.

Can I have appointments online?

Yes. Video appointments work well for digestive nutrition because we review medical reports, food records and symptoms together. Send us your reports before the appointment; you will see the same professional at the same price as an in-person appointment.

Nutrition visits do not replace your doctor’s care. If you are under treatment, we work alongside them.
