Dietitian for eating disorders in Barcelona and online

An eating disorder is not treated with a diet or a one-off appointment. It is treated by a team, and we are one part of it.

Start with these guides

The most common questions, explained by our dietitians. In the consultation we apply them to your case.

If you have an eating disorder, such as anorexia, bulimia or binge-eating disorder, nutrition is part of treatment alongside psychology or psychiatry and medicine. We work on food and nutritional recovery at your team’s pace, in Barcelona and online. If nobody is treating you, we guide you. If you faint or think about hurting yourself, call 112 or 024 today.

What we do

We work within treatment involving psychology or psychiatry, coordinating with whoever treats you.
We support nutritional recovery at the pace set by your team, without getting ahead of their decisions. We help eating stop being a battle, with a meal structure, support and resources for managing anxiety afterwards.
We support families, who are often alone with meals without knowing what to say.
We work with people leaving hospital or finishing treatment who want to maintain what they have achieved.
We tell you clearly when this consultation is not what you need, and help you see the right professional.

What we don't do

We are not an emergency service. If there is fainting, days of fasting or repeated vomiting, go to the emergency department today. We are not the first point of contact. If nobody is treating you yet, start with your GP or mental-health services. We do not diagnose, change your medication or treat an eating disorder alone.
We do not give diets or work with figures for weight, body mass index or the scales. We do not provide psychotherapy in nutrition consultations. The psychologist or psychiatrist in the team treating you handles that.
We do not promise recovery or timelines. Each process takes its own time.

Who this consultation is for

  • You are in psychological or psychiatric treatment and your team has asked for nutritional support.

  • You are a mother, father or partner and do not know how to support meals.

  • You have just finished a hospital stay or treatment and want to maintain what you have achieved.

  • You have diagnosed binge-eating disorder and are in treatment.

  • You do not know whether your situation is nutrition psychology or something more, and want someone to tell you.

How we work

  • First, we assess what care you need

Reception asks what is happening, since when and who treats you. If you are not in treatment or what you tell us suggests a risk, the first step is an assessment by the appropriate professional, and we help you take that step before booking you an appointment.

  • Coordination with your team

If you are already in treatment, we speak with your psychologist or psychiatrist, with your permission, before starting, to understand the role nutrition should play now. The plan is decided as a team.

  • First appointment

Without starting with a diet or the scales. We go through your history, what a day of meals is like, what feels impossible and what has helped you before. You can come with someone you trust. If weighing you is needed, we discuss it beforehand.

  • Follow-up, with the family

We move forward slowly and in the direction set by your team. If family is involved, we work with them on supporting meals without monitoring or negotiating every plate. If the condition worsens, we say so and inform the medical team so they can assess it.

Frequently asked questions

I think I have an eating disorder. Should I book an appointment with you?

The first step is a medical and psychological assessment, and we help you take that step. There is a physical side that needs checking, and the psychological side is central to treatment. You can request it from your GP or a mental-health service; if you tell us about it, we guide you on where to go. Nutrition comes afterwards, within that treatment.

I am the mother (or father, or partner). Can I come myself?

Yes, and it is one of the most useful things you can do. Many families are alone with meals, not knowing whether to insist or stay quiet. We work on that with you, in agreement with the team leading treatment. If your family member is not yet in treatment, we guide you on how to take that first step.

Will you weigh me?

Not unless it is needed. And if weight is part of the follow-up your team has decided on, we discuss it beforehand, explain why, and you can choose not to see the figure. Here, weight is never the goal or the measure of how you are doing.

I binge from time to time, but I do not think it is a disorder. Where do I fit?

Probably in the nutrition psychology consultation, which works on emotional eating, the cycle of dieting and loss of control, and guilt. Tell us about your situation: part of our work is to tell you which consultation is right for you, and sometimes the answer is neither.

How much does it cost?

If a nutrition consultation is the right next step, the first appointment lasts 45 minutes and costs €75, in person or by video call. To continue, there is a 5-appointment package, which we recommend, for €350 (the 10-appointment package costs €650). Insurers with agreements make it less expensive; you will find them in the insurance section. Before booking, tell us about your situation.

Can it be done online?

In part, and it depends on the situation. Follow-up and work with the family work well by video call. What cannot be done remotely is assessing a situation involving physical risk. That is done in person by a doctor.

Nutrition visits do not replace your doctor’s care. If you are under treatment, we work alongside them.
