Online endocrinologist: medical endocrinology and nutrition consultation

When nutrition and medicine work together

Hormonal imbalances, thyroid problems, insulin resistance or diabetes call for a coordinated approach. At Alimmenta, our dietitians work hand in hand with the endocrinologist to offer you a complete approach and, when necessary, refer you for a more specific diagnosis and treatment.

Alimmenta’s technical team in nutrition, psychology and endocrinology

Start with these guides

The most common questions, explained by our dietitians. In the consultation we apply them to your case.

Alimmenta’s endocrinology consultation is a medical consultation, not a nutrition consultation: it is provided by a doctor specialising in endocrinology and nutrition and takes place online, by video call, over 45 minutes. It is for thyroid conditions, diabetes, obesity, hormonal changes and altered metabolic values: the endocrinologist reviews your tests, requests any that are missing, tells you what you have and prescribes or adjusts treatment. And because they are on the same team as the dietitians, the medical side and what you eat are addressed at the same time. What a video call cannot do is examine you: if your case needs palpation or an ultrasound scan, we will tell you which one and where.

What we do

We review your case as a medical consultation: your history, symptoms, medication and any tests you already have.
We request any missing blood tests and investigations, and interpret them with you present.
We diagnose endocrine and metabolic disorders that can be assessed through tests and consultation.
We prescribe or adjust drug treatment when indicated, and explain what you can expect from it.
We coordinate the medical side with your team dietitian, so that treatment and dietary plan move in the same direction.
We refer you to your GP, hospital or another specialty when your issue cannot be resolved by video call.

What we don't do

We do not examine you: a thyroid cannot be palpated and an ultrasound scan cannot be done by video call. If your case requires it, we will tell you which test you need and where to have it.
We do not replace in-person or emergency care. If you have any of the warning signs below, do not book here: go to the emergency department or call 112.
We do not prescribe weight-loss medicines to anyone who asks for them. Whether semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy) or tirzepatide (Mounjaro) have a place in your case is decided in consultation and on medical grounds.
We do not change or stop treatment prescribed by another doctor without your tests in front of us and without discussing it with you.
We do not provide diagnoses or prescriptions by email, telephone or messaging: a consultation is required.
We do not provide ongoing or emergency care. The consultation is scheduled, and follow-up is too.

Who this consultation is for

  • You have been found to have a thyroid nodule or altered TSH and want an endocrinologist to assess it without waiting months.

  • You have hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism under treatment and want to review the dose with your recent blood test results in front of you.

  • You have type 2 diabetes, prediabetes or insulin resistance and need the medical side as well as the dietary side.

  • You have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or another hormonal change and want a specialist assessment.

  • You have obesity and want to know which medical options exist in your case, alongside changes in habits.

  • You live far from Barcelona, or you are already seeing an Alimmenta dietitian and need a doctor to assess the hormonal side.

How we work

  • Tell us what brings you here

Reception will take the reason for your consultation, what tests you have and what medication you take, and book you in with the endocrinologist. If what you need is a nutrition consultation rather than a medical consultation, we will tell you before you book.

  • Send us your reports in advance

You send us your blood tests, reports and ultrasound scans before the video call. The endocrinologist reviews them before seeing you, so the 45 minutes are spent deciding rather than reading.

  • The consultation: 45 minutes by video call

We go through your history, tests and symptoms. You leave with a diagnosis, or with a clear plan to reach one: which tests to request, which treatment to start or adjust, and what to monitor until the next appointment.

  • Follow-up, with both sides together

Follow-up appointments review the next blood tests and how treatment has suited you. If you are also working with a team dietitian, both look at the same case and speak to each other.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an endocrinologist and a dietitian?

The endocrinologist is a doctor: they diagnose, request tests and prescribe treatment. The dietitian works on diet and habits, which is where much of the outcome is decided. They do not compete, and in many cases you need both. If one is enough for you, we will tell you before you book.

Is the endocrinology consultation only online?

Yes. This service is currently offered only by video call, in 45-minute appointments. Alimmenta’s in-person consultations, at its centres in and around Barcelona, are nutrition consultations with dietitians. If your case needs a physical examination or imaging, the endocrinologist will tell you which test it is and where to have it.

Can they prescribe treatment for me?

Yes, when your case indicates it: this is a medical consultation and it ends with a prescription if needed. What it does not do is prescribe on demand. The endocrinologist decides with your tests and history in front of them, and explains what you can expect from the medicine and what you cannot.

Can I come if I am already under the care of an endocrinologist in the public health system?

Yes, and you do not have to stop seeing anyone. Many people come for a second opinion, or because their review appointment is months away. We work from your reports and whatever you want to share with the professional caring for you. What we do not do is change your treatment behind your doctor’s back.

Can you see me from outside Barcelona or from abroad?

From anywhere in Spain, yes: it is a video call. From outside Spain, ask us before booking, because prescriptions and test requests are governed by the rules of the country where you intend to use them and they may not be valid for you.

How much does it cost and how long does it last?

The first appointment is 45 minutes and the price is in the panel on this page before you book. It costs more than a nutrition consultation because it is a specialist medical consultation and includes reviewing your tests before seeing you. Follow-up appointments are shorter and less expensive; reception will confirm this for you.

Nutrition visits do not replace your doctor’s care. If you are under treatment, we work alongside them.
