Adaptations
How to change it depending on the day. Each change keeps the dish, it does not replace it.
Broccoli and almond variation
Steam 1/2 a head of broccoli. Blend it with 2 cups of cooked chickpeas, 1/2 cup of soaked raw almonds, cumin, 2 tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil, 1 tablespoon of tahini, 2 tablespoons of water and salt until smooth; add a few more drops of water if it is too thick. Contains nuts and sesame (tahini).
White bean and turmeric variation
Grind 1 teaspoon of turmeric, 1 teaspoon of cumin, 1 teaspoon of sesame seeds and 1 clove of garlic in a mortar. Blend this mixture with 400 g of cooked, drained white beans, 1 tablespoon of tahini, salt, pepper and about 3 tablespoons of lemon juice, with extra-virgin olive oil, until smooth. Contains sesame.
Sun-dried tomato variation
Soak 3-4 sun-dried tomatoes in water for 1 hour. Make the traditional hummus and add the sun-dried tomatoes before blending.
What it provides
Chickpeas (or white beans in the variation) provide plant-based protein and fibre, while tahini provides unsaturated fats. It is more filling than other highly processed snacks, such as cold cuts or fried snacks.
The dietitian's tip
This is a good snack option between meals with crudités or wholemeal bread, instead of ultra-processed snacks.
What a recipe is not
This recipe fits into a plan; it does not replace one. It cures nothing and it is not calculated for one particular person: the quantities are indicative and will need adjusting to your case.
If you have a medical condition, take medication or follow a prescribed diet, check with your doctor or your dietitian before changing anything.
